literacy station

December Family Activities

Each month we feature a literacy station in the children's area, and we have two fun activities for December to celebrate Christmas and the Star Wars craze.

  • Christmas Tree Math: kids can shake one-three dice, add up the dots, and decorate the tree with the same number of pom pom ornaments--a playful way to practice counting and addition.
  • I Spy With My Jedi Eye: a scavenger hunt for young Star Wars fans. Locate the characters in the children's room and write down the letters found on each character to reveal a secret message. Fun you shall have!

We also have plenty of fun planned during winter break December 28-31.

  • Monday: Math BINGO at 10:30 a.m. in Kimberly--Practice simple addition and subtraction and earn prizes. This is geared for kids ages 6-10.
  • Tuesday: Double Feature Movie Day in Little Chute with Minions (PG) at 10:30 a.m. and Pan (PG) at 1:30 p.m. Free popcorn will be served.
  • Wednesday: Teen Movie The Scorch Trials (PG-13) in Little Chute at 1 p.m. This is the second movie of the Maze Runner series. Popcorn provided.
  • Thursday: Noon Year's Eve Party at 11:15 a.m.-noon in Kimberly. Too tired to stay up until midnight? Ring in 2016 at noon at the library with a story, dancing, and crafts.

Stop in and check out some great holiday books, music, and movies, and have a wonderful holiday season!

P.S. Our winter reading program will return in January. Watch for details!

Thank an Officer

police officer

Every month we feature a literacy station in the children's area. Most stations are geared for our preschool crowd, but this month we have something for all ages: Thank a Police Officer. We encourage everyone to stop in and make a card for our heroes in the Metro Police Department. There is a picture to color and space inside to write your own note of thanks. We are grateful for our police officers who serve our community and keep us safe. We will deliver the cards to the station in early November.

Please stop in to show your support.
