Party on the Plaza

Bring the whole family to Party on the Plaza, August 25th in Little Chute from 4:30-7 p.m.

We're partnering with Little Chute Park and Rec to bring a variety of life-size games (human foosball, Chutes & Ladders, Jenga and more) and art projects to the Little Chute Village Plaza. The Little Chute Windmill Project is staying open late, the Little Chute Diamond Club will have food available for purchase, and Culver's will be scooping custard for dessert.

What a fun way to wrap up the summer!

STEAMing with Legos

pile of Lego bricks

The library recently received two generous grants to support STEAM programming. STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Besides providing a wide selection of reading materials for informational and leisure reading, the library also strives to support life-long learning. One of the best ways to help children learn is to let them play and explore, so the grant money was dedicated to purchasing Legos, Magna Tiles, Snap Circuits, brush bots, and Build-a-Road sets. Watch for Lego and creative play times as part of our regular programming soon.

We are very grateful to our sponsors for their generous gifts! The Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival (Cheesfest) funds were awarded to the Little Chute Library, and the U.S Venture/Schmidt Family Foundation funds will benefit the Kimberly Library. Thank you to both for helping the library go full STEAM ahead.

December Family Activities

Each month we feature a literacy station in the children's area, and we have two fun activities for December to celebrate Christmas and the Star Wars craze.

  • Christmas Tree Math: kids can shake one-three dice, add up the dots, and decorate the tree with the same number of pom pom ornaments--a playful way to practice counting and addition.
  • I Spy With My Jedi Eye: a scavenger hunt for young Star Wars fans. Locate the characters in the children's room and write down the letters found on each character to reveal a secret message. Fun you shall have!

We also have plenty of fun planned during winter break December 28-31.

  • Monday: Math BINGO at 10:30 a.m. in Kimberly--Practice simple addition and subtraction and earn prizes. This is geared for kids ages 6-10.
  • Tuesday: Double Feature Movie Day in Little Chute with Minions (PG) at 10:30 a.m. and Pan (PG) at 1:30 p.m. Free popcorn will be served.
  • Wednesday: Teen Movie The Scorch Trials (PG-13) in Little Chute at 1 p.m. This is the second movie of the Maze Runner series. Popcorn provided.
  • Thursday: Noon Year's Eve Party at 11:15 a.m.-noon in Kimberly. Too tired to stay up until midnight? Ring in 2016 at noon at the library with a story, dancing, and crafts.

Stop in and check out some great holiday books, music, and movies, and have a wonderful holiday season!

P.S. Our winter reading program will return in January. Watch for details!

Read Away the Winter Blues with Frozen

Snowman

We all know what it is like to feel frozen in January in Wisconsin, so we decided to have a little fun and create an all ages winter reading program with a twist on frozen--instead of feeling frozen, let's celebrate winter with the popular movie Frozen! Sign-up begins January 5, so stop by either location to pick up your Frozen BINGO card. Complete the reading activities and turn in your card each week for a different mini-prize. Earn a grand prize entry for every BINGO completed, and you can earn up to four BINGOs during the program.

The Frozen Winter Reading Program runs January 12-February 7 and will end witth a Frozen party on Saturday, February 7 at 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Kimberly. Wear a Frozen costume and enjoy a story plus fun activity stations as part of our Take Your Child to the Library Day celebration.

Bring in the whole family to check out all the great new books and some of your old favorites at the library, and read away those winter blues.
